Injuries suffered in a bicycle accident can affect one for life

In locations across Texas, there have already been quite a few accidents between motorists and cyclists reported this year. The simple truth is a bicycle accident can happen pretty much anywhere and to anyone. Cyclists who have been hit by a vehicle and survive the incident are often left with injuries with which they may suffer for the rest of their lives.

There are minor injuries from which people can easily recover. Those suffered in bicycle accidents, though, generally affect the head and neck which, even with medical care, can leave victims disabled and/or in significant pain. Any trauma to the spinal cord, whether nerve damage was done or not, can lead to temporary and/or permanent afflictions which can make the recovery process very difficult.

Cyclists who have been involved in serious accidents are typically taken to medical facilities as quickly as possible. These individuals will usually present with a variety of problems including pain, stiffness, muscle spasms, numbness and/or even paralysis -- among many other issues. The location of an injury and the extent of the damages suffered are both significant factors in one's prognosis.

A person who has suffered back and/or neck injuries due to a bicycle accident with a car will generally require extensive medical support. Emergent care, along with continued therapies, home care and other treatments, come at a significant cost. This, on top of having to take time away from work, claim disability -- if necessary – or mentally cope with one's situation, can cause emotional and economic challenges to go along with any physical trauma experienced. It is possible to seek relief for any damages sustained by pursuing a personal injury claim against the individual believed responsible for one's hardships. If, upon proper proof of negligence, a Texas civil court finds in favor of the victim, a monetary judgment may be granted.
