Texas DUI truck accident kills three, injures one

Because drivers of 18-wheelers are on the road so much and are often rigorously tested for drugs and other substances, most people feel that they are generally safe drivers. However, when a truck driver does get behind the wheel while impaired, the risk of someone dying from an accident increases exponentially. Tractor trailers are complicated to drive and difficult to stop, and their size makes it easy for the driver to miss smaller vehicles on the road. A recent truck accident in Texas demonstrates the devastation of such a wreck.

According to state police, the driver of an 18-wheeler was traveling in Montgomery County near Texas 105 when he barreled into a car, causing a chain reaction accident. The car he hit first then careened into another vehicle on the road. In the end, the wreck involved five cars total.

Witnesses say that the truck was speeding down the road, and the driver did not even appear to slow down or apply his brakes before the wreck. Two people in the first car that was hit died at the scene. The driver in the second car hit was taken to the hospital, where she later expired. Additionally, a child in the second car was flown to Texas Children's Hospital, but there has been no word on the child's condition.

The truck driver is currently in jail and is charged with one count of intoxication assault and three counts of intoxication manslaughter. Victims or their loved ones faced with a similar tragic truck accident in Texas could benefit from contacting an attorney regarding filing a civil suit against the driver and/or their employer. They could be eligible for compensation in order to defray the costs of medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and other expenses.
