Tragedy when a Texas driver causes wrongful death of a friend

Any car crash that causes fatalities is a tragic occurrence. This is especially true when wrecks involve drivers and passengers who know each other. When a driver causes harm to others in his or her vehicle that are known to the surviving family or loved ones, the wreck can be very difficult to process. In a recent Texas accident, a driver may be faced with wrongful death and other claims after passengers in his truck were hurt.

According to police, the crash happened when the driver was traveling westbound along Interstate 10, near northwest El Paso. The 26-year-old-driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel at approximately 3 a.m. This caused his truck to veer off the road close to the Artvraft exit of the highway.

His car then struck a metal pole, and the truck caught fire. One of the passengers in the vehicle passed away in the fire caused by the accident. Another passenger in the truck was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver was spared traumatic harm, receiving only minor injuries.

At this time, police have not disclosed if the driver was under the influence of alcohol or another drug, nor have they said if he is charged with any criminal charge. However, those who have been injured in similar accidents in Texas, or the loved ones of fatal victims, are still able to file civil claims against the driver for personal injury or wrongful death, depending on the outcome of the accident. Many in these situations seek the advice of an experienced personal injury attorney who will be in the position to carefully evaluate the details of the accident and discuss the various legal options available.
