A car accident occurred recently in Austin between two vehicles. The event took place in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Oct. 23. The fatal accident has now claimed two victims.
The incident took place at around 1 a.m. on Mopac. Authorities suggest that one of the vehicles was headed southbound in a northbound lane when it collided head-on with another vehicle at an extremely high speed. Police had already received calls about the driver headed the wrong way moments before the tragedy. A third car was also involved in the accident when it was clipped, following the initial collision.
A woman was pronounced dead on the scene as a result of the accident. Another man was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for severe injuries. He later perished as a result of his injuries. The occupants in the third vehicle were left uninjured. An investigation is in progress to determine the cause of the accident and charges have yet to be filed against either driver.
In the state of Texas, when a person is involved in a fatal accident, the family of the deceased has the right to file a wrongful death claim against the negligent party. The driver who is found liable for this collision will be held accountable for the death of the other victim. Restitution may also be awarded to the family of the deceased for any financial burdens experienced as a result of the Austin accident. Any claims in a wrongful death case are ultimately decided in the civil court of the state of Texas.
